Ray Wu Trust Fund Donates $360K to CBIS
The Chinese Biological Investigators Society (CBIS) gratefully announce that it has recently
received very kind and generous donations from the Ray Wu Estate and Trust a total of $359,699.67.
CBIS will set up an endowment fund to support its operation and awards in Dr. Wu's name.
Dr. Ray Wu was a Professor at Cornell University and a pioneer in the field of molecular biology. Among his numerous transformative contributions to biology, Dr. Wu was the first to sequence DNA and was responsible for development of many methods in molecular biology. He was also the leader in transgenic technology to development new strains of rice crops.
Dr. Wu was a tireless advocate for Biological Science
and Chinese Biologists. The members of CBIS of course
remember most fondly of Dr. Wu for establishing the
CUSBIA program that brought more than four hundreds
outstanding students from mainland China to top US Universities.
Many of the students have now become international leaders
of biomedical research and served as bridge for China
to the outside world. The CUSBEA program also provided
an opportunity for major US universities to realize
the remarkable talent and diligence Chinese students,
very positively influencing the policy and decision
of subsequent recruitment of Chinese students for non-CUSBEA
program.
